Uzumaki is a Japanese horror manga series created by Junji Ito. It originally ran from January 19, 1998 to August 30, 1999. The series is compiled of three tankōbon volumes spanning 20 chapters.

The story of Uzumaki centers on Kirie Goshima, a high school student, her boyfriend, Shuichi Saito, and the residents of Kurouzu-cho, a sleepy little village in Japan plagued by paranormal spiral-related occurrences. As the story goes on, Kirie and Shuichi experience how the spiral curse alters those nearby, turning them into spiral-obsessed or spiral-paranoid people.

The story is based on creator Ito's childhood memories of living in an older row house. Ito was inspired to create a spiral structure by the shape of a mosquito coil while attempting to find a way to accentuate the length of such a lengthy building.

The whole population of Kurôzu-Cho is mercilessly wiped out every few centuries or millenia, at irregular intervals, by an enigmatic and malicious force known as The Spiral.
